Lean and Six Sigma have been broadly adopted by hospitals to improve acute care quality and financial performance through the streamlining of processes and the elimination of waste in workflows. But has Lean Six Sigma (LSS) delivered the innovations in healthcare that it has in manufacturing environments?

In this presentation, Ron presents the experiences of 10 domestic and international healthcare institutions that have implemented LSS over a period of at least 5 years.

Results of the improvement in the processes are surprising, as LSS has influenced healthcare organizations to transition from being purely problem oriented to more process oriented. Has LEAN been a positive or neutral force in healthcare? This content heavy presentation will present the data.

Meeting planners indicate that in 2013 one of their most requested topics from their members is “how to better work with staff on employee programs, recruitment, retaining good staff and just overall employee satisfaction.”

Ron researched healthcare providers who have all been ranked at the top in rankings of “Best Places To Work In Healthcare” with the goal of answering the question - What are they doing that’s working and are there commonalities? The list includes The Women’s Hospital in Indiana, Wamego City Hospital in Kansas, Texas Health Center for Diagnostics & Surgery in Plano, Black River Memorial Hospital in Wisconsin, Central Illinois Endoscopy Center in Peoria, and Allegan General Hospital in Michigan, as well as 7 highly ranked others.

Why are their employees happy? What makes them stay at their institution? How are they able to attract top talent?

This presentation will cover the qualities and strategies leading healthcare organizations use to foster a great workplace that is attractive to employees and potential hires.
